Sun Direct introduces DTH in western, northern India

Sun Direct TV Pvt Ltd, a leading direct-to-home (DTH) service provider currently operating in South India, announced the launch of its services in western and northern markets,  starting from Gujarat and Punjab respectively, and ssays it plans to ramp up its pan India operations within the next 40 days.

Sun Direct says it is is the rapidly boosting its DTH subscriber base and has added 1.4 million subscribers within a span of 200 days across south India and aims to become the second largest player in the DTH space by the end of this fiscal.

In a bid to replicate its success in the south, it is providing free dish and set-top boxes with every connections and has low add-on channel packages starting from Rs10 to Rs115.
It provides over 130 channels at Rs.999 on a 10-month subscription

Sun Direct is a 80:20 joint venture between the former telecom and IT minister Dayanidhi Maran's family and the Astro Group of Malaysia.

It was the first to adopt the advanced MPEG4 technology offering better compression and signal quality and is the first one ready to offer HD TV content. Sun Direct offers all customer premises equipments like the dish and Set Top box free of cost to the customer, which is a practice followed by DTH platforms across the world.

 ''We are all set for a pan India launch of our services," said SunDirect COO Tony D'silva. "We have spent time to understand the regional customer needs which reflects in our packaging and pricing structure and have created strong logistics, servicing and marketing teams across all regions to ensure that customers have the best of service and DVD quality entertainment at an affordable price.

"Going by what we have achieved in the four Southern states we are confident of replicating the same model across other markets and our aim is to quickly ramp up operations to emerge as the second largest DTH player in the country''
